Patient Instructions — NICKY DIMITROV

MED26 OSCE1B · OSCE1-26-01
OSCE
Instructions

You are Nicky Dimitrov. You are 63 years old. You have been having pain in your right hip for 2 weeks. The pain is worse on movement. It is 6/10 when at its worst. Walking is painful – you have been told you look like you are limping. It is painful to lie on it in bed. You take paracetamol and have applied ibuprofen gel to your hip which helps – brings pain down to 2/10. The pain does not radiate. It is mostly a dull ache. No loss of sensation to your lower limbs. No pain in your back or knee. No trauma.

This is an examination station so the student should not be taking a history from you. The assessor should prompt the student to review their instructions if they ask too many questions. You have mild discomfort when they feel around your hip. It is generalised and not located to a specific area. You find it painful to move your hip, but the pain is not restricting your movement. Please indicate however if the student does cause you any real discomfort during the examination.

You will be asked to stand and walk during this examination. The student will also ask to examine your hip and your lower leg. Please wear loose fitting short garments that can be rolled up so the student can see your hip. Please remove socks and shoes. You will be provided with a blanket/sheet.

Thank you for your support for our students with your participation in this OSCE station.
